Why did we make this change?

We made this change initially due to the fact that many players set macros for these moves to their hardware or their peripheral software, which made the game unfair for players who did not utilize macros. These combo macros move were severely damaging the gameplay experience for many newer, or more casual players.

At the time, we had no way to identify whether or not a combo came organically or from a macro. You may see similar issues in games like Street Fighter, King of Fighters, etc.

In order to combat this and to not impact gameplay of regular players, we temporarily removed the ability to use these moves, as well as added some limitations to others, ex. cooldown on heavy punching.

In the next patch, we will enable the option for players to report others for using macros.

We developed a tool to identify and learn patterns, and will be able to issue any penalties needed for macro usage. Please help us by actively reporting players using macros. We will adjust the tool as we receive more data, and slowly bring back all the advanced / combo moves to the game once the system works as intended. This may take a bit - please be patient with us!

Another issue we see frequently brought up is regarding matchmaking and the Quick Match queue. To start, we are definitely not intentionally flagging and moving players to a different server.

How the System Works

The current system prioritizes finding a match quickly while considering your MMR (Matchmaking Rating). This means we try to match you with players of similar skill levels.
We do take your region into account. However, if there are not enough players of your skill level in your region or if a nearby region has a more suitable pool of players, you might be matched with them to reduce your wait times.

If you are placed into a different server and experience high latency, the root of the problem is that there are not enough players in your region to create a lobby at the time a player is queued up. This could be because:
All players located around you are already in active games
Not enough players are queued up in your native server, or
Queued up players have a large skill discrepancy (MMR too high or too low, which will cause a negative gameplay experience for all players in the lobby)

To improve matchmaking, we're implementing a new feature in the next update:
Combined Game Mode Queues: You'll now be able to queue for Classic, SMASH, and Nemo Kart simultaneously, or just one or two of your preferred game mode. The system will prioritize the mode with the most players in queue to form a lobby to place you in when you queue up. This will increase the pool of available players and help us find matches faster.
We believe this change will reduce wait times, and increase the likelihood of finding matches within your own region!

❗ Players are not flagged and moved into other servers intentionally, but this may happen as an effort of the matchmaking system to place you in a game with players of similar MMR as fast as possible. In an effort to fix this, we are allowing players to queue for multiple game modes at once in the next patch!
